Some of the keys are customization, plenty of options, and depth in gameplay.
Here's a list that would pull in a ton of fans.
What a boxing game needs:
1.Television style, feel and look for certain modes of play. You should feel like you are watching a fight on TV.(should be era specific)
2. Realistic look for certain modes of play. It should feel like you are at boxing match.(Era specific)
3. A list of interactive gyms with strengths and weaknesses
4.News about fights that happened or will happen worldwide, newspaper articles, and magazine covers
5.A List of Promoters and Managers(editable or create)
6. A list of Trainers with strengths and weaknesses(editable or create). The boxers in your boxing world may not have the chemistry to work with certain trainers; especially if he has a low focus or hard to teach trait.
7. Nations, Countries, states, and cities represented in game.
8.Create A tournament
9.Create A Card
10. Create A Promotional company
11.Create Fight Posters- To promote a card,match or fighter(s)
12.Create An Organization-Edit or create(I know many hate it but it's part of boxing and it brings in another type of fan)
13.Divisions(all of them)
14.Venues-Edit or create( We should be able to create venues or place them anywhere on the map)
15.Boxers( We should be able to create and edit thousands of boxers)
16.A list of Judges with different criterias(editable or create)
17.A List of referees with different ways of refereeing
18.A list of Announcers that we can edit or create
19.History and modern day rules
20.Statistics(fans love them especially boxing and sports junkies). We should have statistics for everything.
21.Women and men boxers
22.Corner men that can make a difference to your team

Thread Summary My response to appeal to a lot more age groups who will play this game. Expand this game into a fight club type of encounter where literally anyone can fight regardless of age or size or location. When I was a cop, the kids had these fight clubs going big time. The problem was that was no supervision of any kind and gangbangers were showing up to duke it out. The moms were running scared, along with us the cops. Start with a fist fight, end up with dead kids.
Give the game more expansion by doing "fight clubs" to new users. With or without gloves, no age, or weight restrictions. Instead of using boxing clubs or even a prison, you could use an alley, a back yard, a school cafeteria, a high school gym, or a Brady Bunch living room. I fought in all those environments along with a baseball field in a Catholic church. Hey, we were good Catholic boys just getting drunk and beating the crap out of each other, ok?
The idea is to expand the game to attract the younger crowd who still likes the "Fight Club" scene. Are they still around?

`Excellent idea! I would vote for it.
2. Realistic look for certain modes of play. It should feel like you are at boxing match.(Era specific)
`Once again, you read my mind. Can you go back to the British bare knuckled era to be "era specific"? The Brits were known for their likes of beef, brew and boxing in the 1800's. I can't argue with that.
7. Nations, Countries, states, and cities represented in game.
Not important.
8.Create A tournament
Not important.
9.Create A Card
Not important. I used to fight in "smokers" when I was young, I suppose you could create a card for that. My friend Matt's father grew up in Montana and a local bar paid him and other teens to fight, so you could make a "card" like that.
12.Create An Organization-Edit or create(I know many hate it but it's part of boxing and it brings in another type of fan)
Look, the BEST feature of Fight Night is the ability to create your own fighters. Either yourself if you can find a photo like I did of me when I was 17, or find lookalikes of kids I was actually coaching 20 years ago. Please, do NOT remove this all important feature from FN!!!!
13.Divisions(all of them)
Please eliminate the weight and the age restrictions. They are stupid rules. George Carpentier started to fight as a pro when he wa 14. I suspect that lots of Mexicans do the same to get out of poverty even today. Jimmy Wild was even tinier when he started his pro fighting career near the Welsh coal mines.
14.Venues-Edit or create( We should be able to create venues or place them anywhere on the map) Yeah, I would love to see Laszlo Papp fight in an alley in Budapest!
15.Boxers( We should be able to create and edit thousands of boxers)
YES!!!
16.A list of Judges with different criterias(editable or create)
no.
17.A List of referees with different ways of refereeing
no.
18.A list of Announcers that we can edit or create
No.
19.History and modern day rules
Definitely not!!! No standing 8 counts, no 3 knockdown rules. Get back to actual fighting!!!!
20.Statistics(fans love them especially boxing and sports junkies). We should have statistics for everything.
I don't care about stats. I just fight.
21.Women and men boxers
I am going against my friend here who has a daughter and wants to see her fight. I don't. Old fashioned. No girls fighting, period, especially not with men ! It is called domestic violence!
22.Corner men that can make a difference to your team
Don't care. Maybe a cut man who can stop my eye from bleeding?
I hope I helped you out! Make the changes in your next game, I will buy it!

I'm very happy with your feedback and post but fans want their sports games as realistic as possible. EA Fight Night series lost many fans who wanted their boxing games to be what they saw on TV and having the opportunity to play it out the way they wanted.
This sounds like the type of game you are looking for. The casual fans or young fans don't dictate sports gaming sales unless they are over the top arcadey but then you losing your hardcore and real sports gaming fans. The arcadey sports games sells haven't been doing well over the years. Fans want to experience sports games with depth and detail to the sport they are playing. All the top selling sports games on the market are deep experiences. I can see and want the Bare-Knuckle mode to be a mode similar to it's time in history but not as a full fledge game.

When you build a career it would be fun to deal with random events, rivalries, chaos, glory moments, peaks, falls, all that stuff that will make people look back on a kick-* boxing career. I felt no attachment to my character in CAB Legacy Mode because all I did was box and then get old at age of 35, DONE. How boring! The training was pretty good and I really liked that aspect but there should be a pay off for training hard. If a player wants to put in tedious hours honing their craft they should be rewarded. If a player wants to fool around and not train they should pay the price. The recovery system made no sense beause I would drop a guy in round 1 and have to recover for 3 MONTHS!! Then I would age super fast and get nothing... I ranted a little at the end sorry. View Id say all 3. The gameplay could be tweaked for more realistic sim. 1.Television style, feel and look for certain modes of play. You should feel like you are watching a fight on TV.(should be era specific) Ideally you would want a partnership with HBO or Showtime to maximize the energy and anticipation leading up to a big fight. This would also give you access to HBO's PunchZone or whatever Showtime calls theirs. Basically, you would want to throw in anything that people are used to seeing when watching a fight.
2. Realistic look for certain modes of play. It should feel like you are at boxing match.(Era specific) This one feels like a repeat of #1, but i suppose you mean B&W vs Colour and so on.
3. A list of interactive gyms with strengths and weaknesses This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. In other words, a great boxing game can be made without this feature.
4.News about fights that happened or will happen worldwide, newspaper articles, and magazine covers This can be for both in game and real world. In game; up coming match-ups can be presented between rounds, a la an HBO broadcast. The real world fight news could be presented in the menus as a sports ticker. Could even work as an overlay you pull up that would resemble an iPhone or similar device(lots of iPhone apps to view for reference).
5.A List of Promoters and Managers(editable or create) As this is the ugly side of the sport, it is another feature I would push to the bottom of the pile. On the flip side, it would be a cool to have as an online only feature. A quick look at EA's FNC forums shows us that this type of feature could be a big win with the online community.
6. A list of Trainers with strengths and weaknesses(editable or create). The boxers in your boxing world may not have the chemistry to work with certain trainers; especially if he has a low focus or hard to teach trait. This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. In other words, a great boxing game can be made without this feature.
7. Nations, Countries, states, and cities represented in game. Maybe flush this out some more. It's not exactly clear what is meant by this. My guess is you are referring to boxer creation?
8.Create A tournament Online only feature.
9.Create A Card I think this is a cool feature if as the player you play every fight on the card, playing through a night of boxing rather than a single fight.
10. Create A Promotional company As this is the ugly side of the sport, it is another feature I would push to the bottom of the pile. On the flip side, it would be a cool to have as an online only feature. A quick look at EA's FNC forums shows us that this type of feature could be a big win with the online community.
11.Create Fight Posters- To promote a card, match or fighter(s) This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. In other words, a great boxing game can be made without this feature. Also, once again this seems like a good online only feature to me.
12.Create An Organization-Edit or create(I know many hate it but it's part of boxing and it brings in another type of fan) This is the only one on your list I would out right nix. Mimic all the existing current organizations, no more, no less.
13.Divisions(all of them) Absolutely, no room to budge on this one.
14.Venues-Edit or create( We should be able to create venues or place them anywhere on the map) Are you talking about the equivalent of an in-game level editor or using generic stadiums and allowing the user to choose what country/city it is in?
15.Boxers( We should be able to create and edit thousands of boxers) Absolutely, if you have room on your hard drive you have room to keep creating.
16.A list of Judges with different criterias(editable or create) I see this as a placebo feature, doesn't really add anything to the game. If anything, such a feature would actually hurt the game, especially if editable. Players could edit all judges into ones they know how to manipulate. It would also give players too much insight into how the judging mechanic is working, giving them a greater chance at finding ways to exploit in online matches.
17.A List of referees with different ways of refereeing This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. Can be simplified as just having a handful of different ref models so you are not looking at the same ref every single fight.
18.A list of Announcers that we can edit or create This goes hand in hand with #1 on the list. If an HBO or Showtime partnership were made, this would have to get tossed. If not, I'm not sure how editing/creating would work. You could change names, but you wouldn't want to allow the users to create their own commentary. This is something they can do on their own while they play anyways.
19.History and modern day rules Historic and modern day rules?
20.Statistics(fans love them especially boxing and sports junkies). We should have statistics for everything. As long as we keep in mind that a power punch is any punch that isn't a jab and not just a punch that used a power modifier button. =P
21.Women and men boxers This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. I say this because you wouldn't want to simply just allow it through boxer creation, using the same animations and skeleton. You would want to create a new skeleton for animations for the female models.
22.Corner men that can make a difference to your team This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. I think that this is an area of the game where you want to keep it an even playing field at first. Perfect that, then you can start to think about making it more dynamic.

Couple of adds for me...
- Spectator Mode: whether online or offline, allow people to connect and watch you play. Ideally you would want the option to allow friends only or anyone. Maybe even going so far as to allow them to connect as your corner men, allowing them to communicate with you during the fight. - Partnership with BoxRec.com: Allowing players to import records and bios for boxers they create. So if the game didn't ship with a Sergio Martinez, you would be able to create the face then import all his data from BoxRec.com - Maybe this doesn't belong as part of this list, but I think it is imperative to remove all numerical boxer ratings. I feel this would make players more willing to select and play as a greater variety of boxers, thus breathing more life into the online portion of the game - I guess that brings me to Online. I'm guessing you treated it as a given and that's why it's not part of your list. But just in case, must have Online.

My thing is that EA or a company shouldn't alienate or handcuff the hardcore boxing fans. EA had plenty of chances with the Knockout Kings and Fight Night series of games under their belts to get things right. If a company is going to create a boxing game it should give us what happens in the world of boxing if we like it or not. Many of the fans were force feed arcade-like gameplay and features. There is a large community that wants a deep experience with the boxing action. They want overall control or function ability within their boxing universe.1.Television style, feel and look for certain modes of play. EA has a deal with ESPN, so they should use the ESPN brand fully starting with Friday Night Fights. I'm pretty sure fans wouldn't mind a generic sports show or brand especially if they can change it to the brand they want through editing or customization.
2. Realistic look for certain modes of play. It should feel like you are at boxing match.(Era specific) This one feels like a repeat of #1, but i suppose you mean B&W vs Colour and so on.
Yes! The matches should be B&W if you chose to fight in a certain era. The color should look different depending on the era(Technicolor,High Def, etc;).
3. A list of interactive gyms with strengths and weaknesses This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. In other words, a great boxing game can be made without this feature.
Not having this will take away from the career mode immersion. The want for this is huge in the online and offline community. It's time to make these available to fans. So many other games have things like this in there games. They are huge hits too.
4.News about fights that happened or will happen worldwide, newspaper articles, and magazine covers This can be for both in game and real world. In game; upcoming match-ups can be presented between rounds, a la an HBO broadcast. The real world fight news could be presented in the menus as a sports ticker. Could even work as an overlay you pull up that would resemble an iPhone or similar device(lots of iPhone apps to view for reference).
I agree. I'm thinking it may be hard to get HBO or SHOWTIME for EA being that they have ESPN. Other companies should pursue them. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be a game breaker if they had generic versions.
This could be huge amongst the hardcore and casual. I was a member and moderator on sites that setup online fights. This was/is huge in the Fight Night Community. A in-game Manager Mode has been a huge want from fans for years. There are fans who actually want to manage and promote boxer's careers hands on (as the boxer(s) ) or not.
We can't think maybe next game because anything can sideline a game from having a next game. The sports games in this day and age should have features like this from the start. The fanbase is very large and it's wanted by the hardcore boxing fanbase.
7. Nations, Countries, states, and cities represented in game. Maybe flush this out some more. It's not exactly clear what is meant by this. My guess is you are referring to boxer creation?
Yes, this is for editing and modding purposes in Create A Boxer and career mode and not limited to these parts of the game. All the Nations, Countries, states, and cities are not always represented in combat sports games.
8.Create A tournament Online only feature.
Nooo! This can't be an online only feature. It was a huge feature in past Knockout Kings and Fight Night games that had fans puzzled why it was removed.
9.Create A Card I think this is a cool feature if as the player you play every fight on the card, playing through a night of boxing rather than a single fight.
This feature should have options similar to how WWE games have; you can watch other matches or play as one of the boxers.
10. Create A Promotional company As this is the ugly side of the sport, it is another feature I would push to the bottom of the pile. On the flip side, it would be a cool to have as an online only feature. A quick look at EA's FNC forums shows us that this type of feature could be a big win with the online community.
This feature would be huge to the offline and the online community. We shouldn't alienate the offline community with something like this because it's a feature that has been asked for, for years! It's also casual fan friendly too.
11.Create Fight Posters- To promote a card, match or fighter(s) This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. In other words, a great boxing game can be made without this feature. Also, once again this seems like a good online only feature to me.
Again, sequels are not guaranteed in the videogaming industry especially in this day and age. It's been a fans want and it's casual fan friendly. This feature would be a good for a company who wants to create a sim/realistic game but want to get casual fans to like the game.
12.Create An Organization-Edit or create(I know many hate it but it's part of boxing and it brings in another type of fan) This is the only one on your list I would out right nix. Mimic all the existing current organizations, no more, no less.
Like it or not it's a part of the sport and it's "Casual Fan Friendly"
13.Divisions(all of them) Absolutely, no room to budge on this one.
If it's in the sport, it should be in the game, period.
14.Venues-Edit or create( We should be able to create venues or place them anywhere on the map) Are you talking about the equivalent of an in-game level editor or using generic stadiums and allowing the user to choose what country/city it is in?
If a gaming company can't afford to get the rights to a venue name, let fans name or create a generic one in place of not having certain venues at all.
15.Boxers( We should be able to create and edit thousands of boxers) Absolutely, if you have room on your hard drive you have room to keep creating.
I'm glad you agree. I want pushing this to the Fight Night Producer hard. They budge a little. I'm hoping EA or another company gives its fans this because it's a huge want.
It's will only be a placebo if a company does it that way. If there's a list of judges in a pool that randomly appear for matches this could boost the realism in matches. This works extremely well in text-sim games like "Title Bout Championship Boxing". There is no placebo effect in that game and it would work great in a fleshed out boxing game.
17.A List of referees with different ways of refereeing This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. Can be simplified as just having a handful of different ref models so you are not looking at the same ref every single fight.
This would add immersion and realism to every match.
This would help to add replayability and depth to the game. There is a huge community that love attention to details no matter how minimal some may think it is.
19.History and modern day rules Historic and modern day rules?
Yes, the rules have changed in boxing over the years. The rules are not the sames as the 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, or now. Many of the rules are even different from state to state and country to country.
20.Statistics(fans love them especially boxing and sports junkies). We should have statistics for everything. As long as we keep in mind that a power punch is any punch that isn't a jab and not just a punch that used a power modifier button. =P
I'll have to disagree. There are boxers who power punch is a strong jab or hook. Whichever punch that can do the most damage with the least amount of use. George Foreman and Sonny Liston had monster jabs. Joe Frazier and Joe Louis had incredible hooks that KO'd many opponents.
21.Women and men boxers This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. I say this because you wouldn't want to simply just allow it through boxer creation, using the same animations and skeleton. You would want to create a new skeleton for animations for the female models.
We are fast approaching Next-Gen systems and the technology is huge so why limit a want. Past boxing games had both women and men so we can't give excuses to a company. Many things are not added on purpose no because a lack of capabilities because it was done before.
22.Corner men that can make a difference to your team This type of feature would be very low on my priority list. Can easily be pushed back as something to think about in a sequel. I think that this is an area of the game where you want to keep it an even playing field at first. Perfect that, then you can start to think about making it more dynamic.
Even and balance?!? This isn't realistic. Balance comes from a weakness and a strength you have to recognize in your opponent, every boxer has them. Power, speed, and movement shouldn't be evened off or balanced. Then, we will be just playing with Action Figures with name tags. If a boxer has talent he has talent! If a boxer has one punch power he should have punching power. Floyd Mayweather has two great trainers in his corner being his father and uncle should he be penalized for that?!? It wouldn't make sense. You also shouldn't penalize what decisions a player makes to their offline gameplay. It's your game and if you can afford or want a certain camp you should have it.

Couple of adds for me...
- Spectator Mode: whether online or offline, allow people to connect and watch you play. Ideally you would want the option to allow friends only or anyone. Maybe even going so far as to allow them to connect as your corner men, allowing them to communicate with you during the fight.
This is a huge want that's on the main wishlist.
- Partnership with BoxRec.com: Allowing players to import records and bios for boxers they create. So if the game didn't ship with a Sergio Martinez, you would be able to create the face then import all his data from BoxRec.com
This would be incredibly huge in every since.
- Maybe this doesn't belong as part of this list, but I think it is imperative to remove all numerical boxer ratings. I feel this would make players more willing to select and play as a greater variety of boxers, thus breathing more life into the online portion of the game.
In a boxing or sports game it would never work without a numerical system. It's been debated and discussed numerous types in the sports community. This is what gives boxers life. Tendencies and abilities will make players select different boxers. If a player knows they can actually use a strategy to win a match they will use different boxers.
- I guess that brings me to Online. I'm guessing you treated it as a given and that's why it's not part of your list. But just in case, must have Online.
Online is a must just like offline. Offline is always watered down for the sake of pushing online. There is a community that don't or won't play a boxing game online for various and obvious reasons. We can't leave out fans because of something we don't like or say wouldn't play. I'm a huge virtual sports fan. I have been a part of the Knockout Kings and Fight Night community since day one. I'm a member of every sports gaming, gaming, and sports site on the internet. I have done many surveys and polls on these sites and everything points to a boxing game with overall depth in every aspect of the sport. I know why Fight Night Champion didn't sell well and it lost a huge fanbase. The fans want more and expected more from EA and the Fight Night team when other sports games are giving fans realism and depth that those sports games have.
Game companies have to keep in mind that some of the sim and realistic things they bring to a boxing game is and can be casual fan friendly without penalizing hardcore boxing fans and gamers. The boxing game fan base is large but they will not accept just anything. A company has to realize that the older fans of the sport want to play a boxing game too but they are turned off by the sport's bad representation in a game. There is a die-hard group of fans who want a game as deep as a text-sim with top notch graphic and gameplay.

Understand that in game development, something will always get cut. It's the nature of the beast. Ambition is great, having a vision is a must, but sometimes you just got to budge. Time and budget will always be a factor, you need to choose your battles wisely. My intention was only to help identify your "must haves" and prioritize them above your "could do withouts". You will want to have a top 3, then have the rest follow in order of priority, especially if we are talking about EA.
So for example, fight posters, how does this feature do anything to increase enjoyment of playing the game? What is so important about this feature that it could not be cut? Could people not just simply use Paint or Photoshop to create some fight posters? Sure, you could put a simple editor into a game to allow such a thing, but is it worth taking development and testing time away from far more important features?
We may have some different views on what's important and what's not, but that is a good thing. Our differences is what creates discussion. I for one, am a gameplay first kind of guy. So if in a fantasy world I were to be in charge of the creation of the first sports game, my design philosophy would be; Get the on field/ice/ring gameplay right first, then worry about everything else. That's just for a little insight into how I think when talking about this stuff. I guess you also get a sense of that in my video design doc, as I talk strickly about gameplay related stuff. Ok, I'm veering.
Back on track. With #20 it's not debatable. Maybe you just misunderstood what I was getting at. In boxing, the power punch stat is any punch thrown that is not a jab. It doesn't mean that a fighter cannot have a good, stiff and powerful jab. It just means that it will never be counted as a power punch in terms of stats. My comment was a jab at EA because in their game a power punch in their stats is determined by whether or not you used the power punch modifier button.
With #12, I was under the impression that you were referring to organizations like the WBO, WBC or IBF. If that is the case, I don't see any importance in being able to create more and my original comment stands.
With #8, I don't see the point in being able to create an offline tournament. Can this be done without the assistance of the game, with pen and paper? For that reason, this is the type of thing I consider low priority. If you can fit it in, great, but would be an easy choice for the chopping block.
Now, with what I was saying about removing numerical boxing ratings. Obviously, under the hood this would still all be present. I feel that maybe you misunderstood what I was getting at. Like you think I am talking about making all fighters equal or something. No, I am simply saying that people will always tend to go for the higher numbers. Street Fighter didn't need any type of rating systems for it's fighters and look how successful that game is. This also opens up a new side to the community, where players can create their own scouting lists of what they think each fighter is rated. A whole wiki page would be dedicated to that kind of stuff. I'm telling you, all this overall kind of stuff does is create conflict. Someone who takes a 90 rated boxer and loses to an 82 rated boxer is more likely to blame the game than to accept their own flaws. If there were no ratings, people would be more willing to accept that the opponent was just better.
In the end, I think it's a mistake to try and appeal to everyone. It's that very philosophy that is dragging many of today's games down. FNC, anyone? A boxing game should be made to attract boxing fans first and fight fans second. The mechanic to attract gamers that are neither is already in place with the consoles themselves, Gamer Score and Trophies. For the record, I am aware that my views on this are not inline with corporate America. =P

I love boxing and discussing it and our debating back and forth is great stuff. I'm an overall guy. Gameplay is always priority for me. POETICDRINK2U said:I heard this all before from the EA Fight Night producers. The gimmicky things always become a thing of focus and it ultimately ruins the game. I/we had a list with priorities we sent to the EA producers like they asked. Here it is>>> The Boxing and Fight Night fan's Wishlist EA had in their hands
2 TOP WISHES (Priority)
More create a boxer options lobbies Improved gameplay Improved legacy WATCH MODE (Spectator Mode) -Being able to watch the other fight's so you can maybe pick up weaknesses and strengths when you're maybe thinking of fighting that certain fighter Record Whole Fights Editing existing boxer ratings (offline) Remove the Glued effect from inside fighting
3 GAMEPLAY Make the game a true boxing simulation, simulation is not a synonymous with boring, on the contrary it adds more depth. A simulation boxing game should allow you to do exactly what real boxers can do in real life. If someone wants to try to rush another boxer and try to draw him into a brawl that’s his choice but the game shouldn’t have the flaw of forcing me to fight his fight, which is the case right now. Give us the full arsenal that a boxer has at his disposal for offense and defense.
Realistic Corner (Optional points in the corner mode) Boxer personalities Improved AI (see tendencies) TKO stoppages-(Stoppages by the ref/doctor/corner men from damage and cuts) Pre-fight instructions with authentic refs Refs in the ring-breaking up clinches and calling a fight A Pool of- Referees, Judges, and Trainers (with different tendencies and criteria used) Stops due to too many unanswered punches (optional)-blocking on the move Physicality, there needs to be more not punch related physical contact during infighting, i.e. leaning, taller heavier boxers should be able to lean on other boxers to affect their stamina. Better Ropes physics make them less stiff there are a lot more threw the rope KO’s in reality. Leaning on the ropes should help recover stamina Spaghetti-legs - where are the wobbly legs? After a knockdown sometimes your legs get stiff. There should be torso stances and footwork styles separately-For instance Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali had very similar torso stances but different footwork styles. Off balance/Flash knockdowns (when you're not hurt and can get up very easily) Balance should be more of a factor. If a fighter is tired he may lose balance, Rushing forward may collide with the ropes, the other fight, or a punch. A fighter may miss a haymaker and fall. Lower punch accuracy/punch tracking (this is set way too high and robs guys like Whitaker of his abilities The Jab (Should have more power and also offset your opponents punches on occasion and should also stop your opponent in their tracks when walking into the punch) overall the jab needs to play a more important role in terms of strategy and gameplay -Offsetting your opponents punches (on occasion when a clean punch is landed as your opponent is throwing a punch it should offset your opponent’s punches causing them to miss you. It’s another form of a counter that is not currently represented ) Health Meter and Damage( Health should regenerate slower and standard power punches should have a bigger impact on health) Quicker more responsive footwork If you keep illegal blows fix them and make them more realistic, make them look like accidents i.e. leaning in with the head as if you about the throw a punch it shouldn't be a sure hit
3.1 Add flurries
Pros: Good for finishing your opponent or just landing shots Cons: Lose in stamina and accuracy, also can leave you open for counters
(While not holding block button)
3.2 Evasive Roll Similar to the bob n weave mechanic only it allows you to slip and move left or right, similar movements could be performed using quarter circle motions
3.3 Shoulder Roll Flicking The Right stick left or right while blocking can a perform shoulder roll
3.4 The one-two Combination I would like to see a distinct animation for this combo to add realism. Currently the jab has to retract before cross is thrown which makes it seemed robotic; also the boxer doesn't lean into the cross at all. To simplify it I would like to see this
3.5 Feinting, Taunting, Taking a knee & switching stances Could be implemented by using the 4 directions on the D pad, right now the D pad isn't used at all. It would also free up one of the Left bumper currently used for switching stances.
3.6 Punching from the guard In the game now we bring both hands down before throwing, the problem is that when holding down the R Trigger the R Analog stick is hijacked and is used to block up or down. My solution would be to down use the now freed left bumper to hold the block up or down consequently freeing the right stick to throw punches. That way you can finally use text book boxing and protect one side of your head or body while you throw a punch. What I like with that solution is that it’s not automatic you have to remember to do this to block while you throw; the better more disciplined fighters will take advantage.
3.7 Leaping/lunging punch I was trying stuff out on the controller and I think that pressing down on the R stick before performing your punch motion should perform a leaping punch. Either that you're using the current haymaker bumper as a leaping punch modifier
3.8 Second gear speed I like Edgeshot’s idea of flicking the L Analog stick in one direction twice and holding it there, you could change directions by moving the stick around, but you would only come back to normal speed if you brought the stick back to the center. If that’s not possible pressing the analog stick before moving like in FPS games
3.9 Slipping while moving Only for certain fighters with high foot speed, head movement and agility ratings. This is what gave me the hardest time. What I think is that we should use quarter circle moves right now, there are still 6 semi circle moves that do nothing on the Left Analog stick. Look at all the examples given my Mackmoon like the shoulder roll for example. Maybe flicking the stick and letting go could let us step with our slip.
3.10 Moving while you're punching They should be animated as a "step in jab" and "Step in straight" The jab should work to stop your opponent’s forward progress, and the Straight should drop or stun you if it lands and take longer to recover from if it misses. There should be no wind up, just the step in. This will allow for a Real One-Two combo. Right now when throwing a punch it halts you because you set your feet when throwing, this is mainly because there is one animation for each punch. We should be able to punch while I’m stepping in, backing up or moving sideways, we shouldn't be forced to stop first. We should only set our feet when we aren't moving the directional stick. All EA Canada has to do is use madden 10’s new layered blending animation technology, where the upper body can start a new animation while the lower body keeps going with another animation. When you throw the straight while moving in second gear you should step forward with your back foot and cross your feet committing completely to the punch (risky should leave you open and off balance).
3.11 Throwing punches with varying power This way we can get rid of the stupid haymakers we have now plus free up he buttons. In Madden they have Lob, Touch, and Bullet passing, why not have a Pawing, normal and Stiff/Loaded punch system for Fight Night, in addition to the Haymakers, which would then be animated differently? It would work for both the buttons and the sticks, with 3 different punch animations depending on how long you press/hold the stick/button. It would probably easier with straight punches for the sticks, for hooks and uppers you would just swing through the normal motion. Each punch would have a different "frame count" for how long the animation took to complete.
Pawing being the shortest/safest option and almost look like the "feints" on Controller Config. 3. Normal Straights hooks and uppers would look as they do now. And Stiff/Loaded shots would require you hold the stick/button a bit longer for straight shots, (for stiff jabs, or more powerful straights). But on the sticks, for hooks and uppers you would have to punch through the target. For example with a loaded left hook, you would start the motion at 9 o'clock and end at 3 o'clock in a half circle motion. This would a fast punch with a longer recovery time if you missed. It would also take the most stamina.
If something like this is implemented that would easily triple the number of punches we have from 6 to 18, add punch angles, and reach factors and we are getting much closer to a true representation of the punch arsenal in boxing. This idea is still being fine tuned, but any feedback is appreciated.
3.12 Punch retraction animation speed: Punch speed to me is perfect, what seems off is the speed at which we can retract our punches. It’s too fast; it’s just as fast as throwing the punch when it needs to be a tad bit slower. The numbers I’ll use are completely arbitrary; let’s say a straight right animation takes 20 frames (10 extensions 10 for retraction). The retraction animation should take more like 14 frames. It would make it more realistic, boxers throw the punch with a lot of velocity but don’t bring it back as fast unless they are bringing it back to block. This fact is one of the reason people can pepper the same punch at an unrealistic speed at the moment in FNR4.
3.13 Arm Muscle fatigue/Lactic Acid build up: This is not represented in the game; I am not talking about stamina here, 2 completely different things. Right now in the game you can throw all your punches with one arm and there would be no consequence. There should be another HUD bar for arm muscle fatigue. I was able to pepper 300+ jabs at Gamboa in one round on GOAT whiteout slowing down whatsoever not realistic, this would also help to address the spamming of the same punch being so effective.Read more: boxinggamewishlist.proboards.com/thread/7/wishlist-ea-possession#ixzz2bJQQwOAiDon King Prizefighter had a feature in which you could create posters to hype fights leading up to your fights. It was a feature that the fans loved and enjoyed(it's casual fan friendly)I agree. My motto is and always has been "You can make a hardcore boxing fan out of a casual fan through a realistic game" ... this will ultimately come from gameplay.Yes, there was a misunderstand. Thanks for the clear up. This is a part of the sport no matter how we may want to twist it. It would be good for in-game replayability and online fights. This would definitely be casual fan friendly with the reality of the sport. We hate the catering but companies are not going to change their practices. Companies say there are more casual fans than hardcore...this is up for debate for many, especially when it comes to sports games.
You can't be anymore hardcore than the fans on this site Title Bout Championship Boxing Many of them are boxing writers, boxing nerds, and hardcore fans of the sport. They never complain about their Text-Sim game having things like huge list(pool) of organizations, corner men, judges, etc.Title Bout Championship Boxing review
Offline tournaments has been a huge want from fans offline and online. The offline community can't be denied this and it only becomes an online mode. Tournament Modes are huge in many games, especially combat sports.I understand what you are saying.I couldn't agree more!!! back to my saying "You can make a hardcore boxing fan out of a casual fan with realism/sim".

I love many of the suggestions made. Differentiating a boxers movement and speed when he's got his hands up and when he's just trying to be elusive is very important. FC has done it to a degree in the past, but the difference in speed is not accurately represented, this is why boxers who look to win on points are at an unfair disadvantage as most FN bouts are slugfest with an unnatural amount of punches thrown and landed. Fighters should be able to easily transfer between a flat footed and on-their-toes style and their punches should be more effective when they are planted. Likewise, they should also expend more energy when on their toes, but most fighters who would seek to move a lot, would have heightened stamina which would make this strategy feasible.
I've always found it hard to craft a successful gameplan for fighters like Mayweather, Whitaker or a Paulie Malignaggi-type as ultimately, the game style makes you trade.
Also, the absence of one-hitter quitters is glaring. A combination of punching power in the punch and hand thrown with the victims chin strength, momentum and body positioning should create a formula that enables a one-punch KO. Fighters with weaker chins obviously wouldn't have to be hit by big-time punchers to fall victim. Likewise, big-time punchers wouldn't have to be facing a fighter with a weak chin to score the dramatic KO.
One thing that differentiates boxing from other sports is the one-punch KO. Everything can change in a second if the one big shot is landed and boxing games need to reflect that.
This is the truest statement: "In the end, I think it's a mistake to try and appeal to everyone. =P"
But because this is such a niche audience, the chances that we'll see this from a major company is slim—at least at first. An independent developer is going to have to take this project on and the big boys are going to have to believe its worth it and jump on board after it garners cult status.
