These are things others and myself expect from a boxing videogame in this day and age. The gameplay is the number one priority. I was boxers to feel like boxers. I want certain punches and things they do in the ring to feel like they have weight and impact behind them. I know some boxers don't punch with weight or they fight awkward; which should be represented in a boxing videogame.
Tendencies of a boxer in a boxing videogame needs to be present to call it or a game realistic or SIM. Body fatigue need to play a part in gameplay. Gameplay balance shouldn't come with both boxers physical strengths are the same. Balance should come from skills, technique, or strategy. Companies need to stop dumbing down certain boxers to pacify a casual boxing fan; especially playing realistic or sim.
Graphics is secondary but necessary to sell games on a large scale to hardcore and casual fans be they a boxing or gaming fan. Fans expect near as possible to realistic graphics. They want cuts, sweat, reactions, and the whole boxing atmosphere in a boxing game.
The presentation has to be on point. I expect to see judges, referees, ring card girls, announcers, boxing fans in the audience, interviews before and after a fight, tv and cable presentation, the w hole ambience of boxing.
We must have different modes and options in a boxing videogame for all types of players. Modes Training, Manager/Promoter, Create A Boxer, Create A Tournament(Round Robin, Super Series, etc), Career Mode, Exhibition, Recreate or create historic moments.
I want career mode to tendencies to be as deep or deeper than a text-sim game with graphics.
[Robert Bushell] Everything you've said sounds spot-on.
The main thing I would re-itterate, though, is that graphics aren't the only way to convey a sense of realism.
The crowd/ commentary/ atmosphere and presentstion (like you mentioned) all of this plays a part in making it FEEL real, including the idea of having unique fighting styles/ tendencies.
I keep saying it, but it's also important to get create a fighter over successfully. That way, there can be no complaints about the roster.
You should be able to create a boxer with a first and last name (with BOTH having a list recorded for commentary purposes). You should be able to set the CAF's fight record, instead of grinding career mode to get it perfect all the time. (Imagine trying to recreate Sugar Ray Robinson's record 😂 most career modes don't even last that long).
There should also be some basic stat-tracking, which the commentary refers to (talking about which boxers fought who in their last matches, winning/ losing streak/ history with going the distance etc.)
Make even a completely random CAF feel like a part of real history.
It sounds a bit daft, but I also feel like we should be able to (briefly) customise the corner crew for CAFs, as that also plays a huge part in the fight.
Perhaps just brief looks and give them a rating from 1-5 star on experience and judgement (kind of like FIFA)
